STANFORD UNIVERSITY MEMORANDUM
DATE: September 5, 2006
TO: Stanford University Colleagues

RE: Land, Buildings and Real Estate - Organization
In July, the University announced the decision to centralize the management of its lands into a new organization: Land, Buildings and Real Estate. This centralization will enable the University to have an integrated and strategic approach to all real estate, development and entitlement for all Stanford University organizations.
Aligning the resources to be consistent with the responsibilities, the following organizational changes have been implemented. The Land, Buildings and Real Estate group will be made up of three primary units: Finance and Administration; Real Estate, Land Use and Environmental Planning (entitlements); and Academic Projects and Operations. These changes are effective as of September 1, 2006.
Finance and Administration will be led by Megan Davis (Associate Vice President) and reporting to her will be Margaret Dyer-Chamberlain (Senior Director - Capital Planning and Space Management); Dorothy Farkas (Finance Director - Real Estate); Gail Fong (Finance Director - Operations); Howard Leung (Finance Director - Academic Projects); and Jean Barnes (Associate Director - Board Administration).
Real Estate will continue to be led by Bill Phillips (Senior Associate Vice President). In addition, I have asked Bill to take on the additional responsibility of leading the existing group of Land Use and Environmental Planning (LUEP). Charles Carter, as the Director of LUEP will now report to Bill Phillips.
Academic Projects and Operations will be led by Jack Cleary (Associate Vice President) and reporting to him will be Dave Lenox (Director of Campus Planning and Design, and University Architect) and Chris Christofferson (Associate Vice Provost - Facilities Operations).
In addition to the above, Gary Rotzin (Senior Associate Vice President) will expand his role as counsel to LBRE managers and chief negotiator for all capital projects, now including real estate and operations. Gary will also be our designated point of contact on all OSHPD projects as well as the leader and authority on project accountability and quality.
